Is Reformer right for me?
Reformer Pilates is a method of exercising using a reformer ‘bed’ of springs and pulleys that allows us to stretch through full ranges of movement whilst strengthening. There are many benefits to reformer Pilates including increased mobility, muscular strength and endurance and bone density, improved balance, coordination, and skills. Because Pilates is a very mindful way to move, it often results in improved mental and emotional well-being too.
We could cite the benefits of reformer Pilates until you fall asleep, so let us leave you just a few of the benefits we often hear from the mouths of our members instead.
“I sleep so much better on the nights I come to class”
“I don’t have to hold onto the rails as I walk upstairs anymore”
“The difference in my core!”
“I’ve never stuck with any other form of exercise like this before”
“I am definitely much more flexible already”
“I have knocked off loads of time from my personal best (running)”
“I can feel my posture getting better”
“Everything is better”
Why Reformer at The Fit Collective
From the laid back vibes in our beautiful studio, to the careful curation of all our sessions, our intention is to help you fall in love with reformer Pilates, with movement, and with taking care of yourself.
This intention of creating enjoyable experiences comes first, because the exercise you love is the exercise you stick with. We seek to help you feel empowered, strong, and capable and we firmly believe these feelings are accessible to all.
Whilst we use modern exercise science and strength training principles to help develop your strength, we encourage intuitive movement, supporting you to notice your body’s responses to the exercises and adapt your effort levels accordingly. Focusing on moving slowly with concentration and control, we gently encourage you to push when you can to help improve different aspects of fitness.
You will feel us very much present with you in class, often at your side, whether to offer an alternative option, suggest a minor adaptation to your posture, or to check in to see how you are experiencing the movement. We hold your hand and gradually let go as we feel you growing in confidence, staying to nudge and support you when needed so you constantly develop your practice.
Which class should I choose?
No matter your fitness level, experience of mat work Pilates, or any other fitness discipline, if you are new to reformer Pilates, you must start with a foundations class, suitable for beginners. We have full length foundations classes (50 minutes) and express lunchtime classes (40 minutes). Either of these will be suitable.
To see where these sessions are on our schedule click the TIMETABLE here.
Once you have some experience, you might attend flow classes which are more challenging. Have a chat with us to check when you might be ready to do this. For some it might be after 5 sessions and for others it might after a year of practice.
How do I get started?
Whilst you can go straight into a full membership or buying a pack of sessions which you can see HERE , we recommend you give reformer a try first before committing too far ahead. Whilst some fall in love right away, others find their loves builds overtime. It isn’t uncommon for our clients to say they didn’t love it at first but had a turning point after the first 4 or 5 sessions. So, to give it a proper go, we recommend embarking on a 4 week programme of 8 sessions in total.
If you just want to try one class, that is an option, and you can purchase a single session if you prefer.
Step 1 – Go HERE to check out our introductory programmes to get started and click through to make your chosen purchase. You can also check out our monthly memberships to see what is on offer after your introductory programme ends.
Step 2 – Go to our TIMETABLE to see which of our classes match your schedule and to get booked on. We recommend planning in advance with your bookings to be sure you can get onto your favoured classes.
